Twenty-five years ago, Intrinsic Yacht & Ship was founded with a simple belief: boating is about more than boats. It’s about people, trust, and the experiences that stay with you long after you leave the dock.
Since January 23, 2001, that belief has guided every decision, every relationship, and every chapter of our story. What began as a small, relationship-driven operation has grown into a full-service yacht brokerage serving the Chesapeake Bay and beyond — while remaining true to the values that started it all.
Where It Began
Intrinsic Yacht & Ship was established on January 23, 2001, by Founder and Owner Chris Ruggieri, a lifelong Chesapeake Bay boater whose early experiences on the water shaped a deep respect for craftsmanship, performance, and the sense of community boating creates. From sailing with his parents to cruising powerboats with his grandfather, boating was never just a pastime — it was a way of life.
Those early years left a lasting impression. Chris grew up admiring iconic boats dockside throughout the Bay, developing a keen eye for quality, design, and performance. Those moments quietly formed the standard that would later define Intrinsic.
The name itself came to represent that vision. Intrinsic — belonging naturally; essential — captured exactly what Chris wanted the company to stand for: authenticity, integrity, and a relationship-first approach. From day one, Intrinsic was never about volume or transactions. It was about doing things the right way.
How We Grew
As relationships deepened and demand grew, Intrinsic evolved alongside its clients. What started as brokerage sales expanded into a comprehensive, full-service operation.
Milestones along the way included opening an office in Ocean City, Maryland, and expanding our service department to better support owners before, during, and long after the sale. These moments marked more than growth — they reflected a commitment to meeting clients where they are and supporting their entire boating journey.
Today, Intrinsic proudly offers the Intrinsic 360° Advantage — guiding clients through purchase, service, and resale with expertise, transparency, and care.
